DISCIPLESHIP

"It is only that He became
like us that we can become
like Him."

- DIETRICH BONHOEFFER

Connected to the forgiveness of Jesus, discipleship is growing more and more into the likeness of Christ, within the context of the loving, extended family of your local church. That's why at OSNY we place such a premium on DISCIPLING GROUPS. They are the the place for life-changing relationships to form.

BAPTISM

We baptize all ages at OSNY, from infants to elderly. All of us, regardless of age, are broken by sin and unable to save ourselves. Baptism is the means by which God mysteriously and officially connects us to the forgiveness of Jesus and marks us a member of His family. Your journey with Jesus--young or old--begins in baptism.

We celebrate baptisms on any given Sunday morning during a weekly worship service. If you or someone you love needs to be baptized, talk to Pastor Anthony who can help you arrange a baptism. You can also contact the church office: osnyoffice@our-saviour.org or fill out our online from HERE.

For more information on our beliefs regarding baptism, you can download an in-depth description, HERE.

Baptism and completion of either Confirmation or The Foundations Class are required for celebrating the Lord's Supper. For overviews of our beliefs on the Lord's Supper, you can download an in-depth description, HERE.

SERVING

Our mission is simple: to be New York's Neighborhood Church. However, to accomplish it requires all of us, working together, to make it happen. Plus, serving in the mission is one of the primary ways to make friends and experience life change. We encourage everyone to find one place of primary service within the church and to take part in service outside of the church as well.

Serving is open to and encouraged for all.

At OSNY "membership" is really about ownership. It's about making a public commitment embracing the theology, vision, and mission of Our Saviour New York. Owners make a commitment to leverage the best of their time, talent and treasure to help move the mission of the church forward, living on the front lines of loving Jesus and serving others in New York City. Owners also form the voting body of OSNY which ultimately approves the direction of the church at an annual meeting, and it is a required step for anyone aspiring to the roles of elder or deacon.

Those seeking ownership take part in THE FOUNDATIONS CLASS, a 6 week class that offers an overview of our theology and mission, as well as the story of Our Saviour New York. After completion, the class participants are then welcomed into ownership at one of our weekend gatherings.

Register for The Foundations Class by reaching out to Pastor Anthony: aforgione@our-saviour.org.Those unable to attend The Foundations Class in-person can also walk through the process online via Zoom, at their own pace. For more information contact osnyoffice@our-saviour.org.

Students, 6th - 8th grades are strongly encouraged to take part in the Confirmation Discipling Group. This 2 year journey offers students a chance to dig into the faith they've been baptized into and prepare them for life as an adult follower of Jesus. For more information contact osnyoffice@our-saviour.org.

LEADERSHIP

Upon being baptized into God's family, demonstrating ability and faithfulness through serving in God's mission, and taking an ownership stake in OSNY, you are ready to aspire to leadership. At OSNY high-level leaders emerge in one, primary way: through discipling relationships within our DISCIPLING GROUPS.

At the heart of every Parish are a handful of smaller gatherings called discipling groups, where men and women dig deep into what it means to follow Jesus. The commitment that's demonstrated and the life change that happens in this process points us toward emerging leaders ripe for key roles such as Discipling Group leaders, Elders, Deacons, and those who instigate our regular community outreaches that draw our neighbors into our doors to begin a journey of their own.
